Put Down those Chips and Pick Up some Healthy Snacking Ideas!

Unfortunately today was grocery day and the once bare-boned shelves of my junk food cubbard are now stocked to the brim with 100% bad for you snacks. This is what inspired this little mini-post and well, this post inspired my willpower.

Healthy Snacking Ideas 101
There are a bunch more on the website but these are the ones that caught my eye!

1) 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce with 1 slice of wholegrain bread, toasted and cut into 4 strips for dunking

2) Frozen yogurt lollipops

3) 2 multigrain crackers with cheddar cheese and sliced green grapes

4) 1 small apple sliced, almond butter thinly spread on each slice, raisins sprinkled on top

5)1/2 cup of pure orange juice, frozen and eaten as sorbet

If you have any fun and healthy snacking ideas feel free to send them my way, Enjoy and Happy Snacking!

  1. Working in the United States for the past week and being continually amazed at their complete and utter ignorance when it comes to dietary decisions, these kinds of suggestions could certainly go a long way towards making even the slightest dent in the country's rapidly increasing obesity rates.

Everything down here is sugar-filled, deep fried, vegetable-lacking, etc, it's unbelievable. I know I'm not the healthiest eater out there, but your suggestions seem pretty appealing!

  2. I really wish that snaking like this came easy for me. I rarely stop at fast food restaurants, and refrain from drinking pop, however eating foods considered healthy and nutritious rarely happen. The best I can do is eat popcorn instead of chips. Maybe I'll try frozen yogurt instead of Haagen-Dazs.

  3. I love the orange juice idea! My mom would always make popsicles out of orange juice and they were delicious! I've never tried it as a sorbet but the picture looks good.

  4. Great tips! The frozen yogurt lollipop definitely sounds interesting! I may have to give that a try.

  5. I am one of those people who would choose a bag of chips over a bar of chocolate. I prefer salty to sweet. Can you suggest anything that would be good to snack on that would satisy my sodium chloride cravings?

  6. I totally agree with Nathan. My idea of healthy choices is eating the lesser of two evils. My biggest problem is that I don't know what other options are out there, so thanks for the great tips!

  7. I did not know about the first option. I love applesauce and bread. Next time I have both in my house I am going to try that. Hits both my carb and sweet craving. Then again, I am unsure of the crackers, cheese and grape one. Seems a little odd for my taste.
